How to Read This Dashboard
This dashboard uses quarterly state-level labour force statistics from DOSM. Labour force, employed and unemployed figures are displayed as normal person counts. Unemployment rate and participation rate are shown as percentages. The state-level quarterly dataset does not include sex or age filters; those breakdowns are available in separate DOSM labour datasets, not this state-level quarterly table.
Understanding Malaysia’s State Labour Market
This dashboard helps users analyse labour market conditions across Malaysian states using official quarterly data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia. Labour market statistics are important because they show how many people are working, looking for work, participating in the labour force, or remaining outside the labour market.
The dashboard is useful for businesses, researchers, logistics planners, policy analysts, investors and students who need to understand regional employment conditions. For companies involved in trade, logistics, manufacturing or distribution, labour market conditions can provide useful context for workforce availability, regional business activity and economic momentum.
What the Indicators Mean
Labour Force
The labour force refers to people who are either employed or unemployed but actively participating in the labour market.
Employed Persons
Employed persons are people who worked for pay, profit or family gain during the reference period used in the Labour Force Survey.
Unemployed Persons
Unemployed persons are people who were not working but were available for work or actively looking for work.
Unemployment Rate
The unemployment rate shows unemployed persons as a share of the labour force. A higher rate means a larger share of labour force participants are without work.
Labour Force Participation Rate
The participation rate shows the share of the working-age population that is either employed or unemployed. It helps indicate how actively people are participating in the labour market.
